The Friends are a fund raising and volunteer support group for the Arapahoe Library District. Established in 1996, the Friends operate used book stores in five libraries and run three annual used book sales. Money raised by the Friends is distributed to the Library District to support programs and projects that might not otherwise be funded.

  • Visit Friends' Used Book Stores: a wide assortment of gently loved, hardback and paperback books at discounted prices.

Volunteer with the Friends
When you get a bunch of Friends together it's called a party! We like to think that's what happens when our Friends get together to volunteer. Here are few ways to get involved:

  • Become a cashier in one of our used book stores at Koelbel, Smoky Hill or Eloise May Library. You will be trained to operate a very user friendly cash register and can work as often or as little as you like, all the while enjoying the warm atmosphere of a beautiful bookstore.
  • Help sort book donations, stock the shelves and manage the inventory in one of our used book stores.
  • Just want to get your feet wet and see what volunteering with the Friends is all about? Help out at our annual Used Book Sale at Koelbel Library. Always held in September, this is a massive volunteer undertaking and we need all the Friends we can get! Volunteers help set up the sale, work as cashiers or cashier helpers, man the hold table or restock books. Shifts are usually 3-4 hours.
  • For more information please call Louise Richey at 303-LIBRARY (303-542-7279).

The Friends operate under the Arapahoe Library Friends Foundation, a nonprofit with a 501(c) 3 status.
