What Privacy Means to You
The Arapahoe Library District is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy covers The Arapahoe Library District's treatment of personally identifiable information collected through the use of The Arapahoe Library District's websites, programs, and services. This policy does not cover uses of information you provide to websites or services you may find and/or use as a result of using The Arapahoe Library District's websites, programs, or services.

All personally identifiable information, such as your name, address, e-mail address, demographic data, and telephone and fax numbers, as well as your comments or other messages to the Library District are confidential and will not be given to any other agency or organization, or used for any purpose other than one prescribed by the Arapahoe Library District, except when necessary to comply with subpoenas, court orders or legal processes, or when your actions or use of our websites, programs, or services violates the terms of our public accessibility or unacceptable use policies.

The Arapahoe Library District uses personal information primarily when compiling user statistics, ascertaining patron opinions and suggestions and promoting the Library District and its programs and services, among other uses. The Library District has, in place, certain technological and procedural security functions in order to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, alteration or destruction. In addition, the Library District will use reasonable efforts to remove your personal information when you request it or it is no longer needed. The Library District cannot, however, guarantee that such loss, misuse, alteration, destruction or retention will never occur, and does not make representations to this effect.

Acceptable Use of Library Technology and Services

Programs, Photos, Video Release
The library facilities are public places. Recording equipment may be used during your attendance at a program or while you are using the facility. Your photograph may appear on promotional materials for an indefinite period of time with the understanding that your name may or may not be displayed. You will not be compensated for the use of your photograph or likeness and release the Arapahoe Library District from any liability in connection with the making, publication, distribution or other use of such materials.

Your Child and the Library
It's About Choices
Your child's library card* presents opportunities for many fascinating, educational and entertaining experiences, and we are pleased that you, as a parent or guardian, are encouraging your child to explore them.

The Arapahoe Library District provides a wide variety of materials representing many points of view on topics of interest to the community. All libraries contain some printed, audiovisual and online materials that some parents find inappropriate for their children.

It is not the library's policy to decide what ideas your child should be exposed to; therefore, we hope you will continue to participate in the learning process by helping your child select materials and by sharing them at home.

We provide alternatives. You make the choices.

* Children of any age can get an Arapahoe Library District library card with parental approval. Parents/guardians are responsible for library materials and any fines or charges incurred by their minor children (under age 18).

Using the Internet
The Arapahoe Library District provides free access to Internet computers for all ages. These computers are filtered in accordance with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and the Colorado State Law on Internet Protection in Public Libraries (CRS 24-90-601 etc.). Computers in the children's area of the library or those designated for use by children only have a stricter level of filtering than that used on adult and teen computers.

Please be aware that no filtering system is infallible and the Arapahoe Library District does not assume any responsibility for the accuracy of its Internet filters.

We are always willing to work in partnership with you to help guide your child in the safe use of the Internet. The library staff can direct you to child-appropriate websites and help you find resources with tips for parents and children on how to surf the web safely. Please remember, however, that ultimately, you are responsible for your child's use of the Internet in the library.

For Your Child's Sake
To keep your child safe in the library, please keep in mind that the library is a public building open to everyone, and please:

• Keep young children close to you.
• Do not leave small children unattended. We request that you stay in the library when your child is participating in a library program or event.
• Assist your child with the library computers if he or she is not familiar with the equipment.
• Ask your child to behave appropriately and to be considerate of others while in the library.
• Know the library hours so a child who needs transportation is not left alone when the library closes.

Your child will benefit from all the library has to offer when we work together as partners.

Social Software Guidelines
Social software is defined as any web application, site or account which facilitates library users sharing opinions and information about library related subjects and issues. Comments, posts, messages and tags are welcome and will be posted to the site immediately. The following will warrant removal of comments, posts, messages and tags:

• Obscene or racist content
• Personal attacks, insults or threatening language
• Potentially libelous statements
• Plagiarized material
• Private, personal information published without consent
• Commercial promotions or spam

By posting content, the user agrees to indemnify Arapahoe Library District and its officers and employees from and against all liabilities, judgments, damages and costs (including attorney’s fees) incurred by any of them which arise out of or are related to the posted content. Comments may not be used for commercial purposes or for organized political activity.

Arapahoe Library District reserves the right to monitor content on the websites, to modify or remove any messages or postings that it deems, in its sole discretion, to be abusive, defamatory, in violation of the copyright, trademark right, or other intellectual property right of any third party, or otherwise inappropriate for the service.
